The lymphatic system is the body’s waste removal system that releases pathogens and debris into specific lymph nodes where the body’s natural immune defence is able to process and remove any potential issues. Unlike the circulatory system which contains a pulse mechanism (regulated by the heart) to transport blood, the lymphatic system relies on the movement of surrounding muscles to transport lymph and gravity which is why it is common in arms and legs. When the lymph becomes stagnant or pools within the nodes during times of sluggish processing or illness, lymphoedema or swelling develops. Lymphoedema can accumulate anywhere on the body including the legs and arms, however pockets of swelling and fluid underneath the eyes, the sides of the face and on the neck can create unwanted puffiness and a sluggish immune response.
LLLT is a medical grade cold laser that normalises cellular and systemic function without heat or discomfort. Emitting a gentle beam to swollen or lymphoedema affected areas, LLLT works within the skin to reduce inflammation, increase immunity and stimulates lymphatic drainage to release puffiness and areas holding unnecessary fluid. The area becomes less swollen and effective drainage resumes leaving the skin smoother and re-contoured. LLLT may be performed on all skin types and colours and provides particular relief for post-operative care.
