Low Level Laser Therapy, also known as Cold laser therapy, is an extremely effective non-thermal (or “Cold”) laser treatment, designed to treat and relieve a number of skin, inflammatory and body conditions.
Australian Laser & Skin Clinics is proud to provide this therapy in our Melbourne clinics, helping to alleviate, decrease, and reduce a number of our client’s concerns. It works by penetrating the skin deeply with a consistent infra-red laser beam at a long wavelength of 800 – 830 nm, resulting in the stimulation, regulation and acceleration of cell function in the area being treated. It also delivers effective penetration into injured cells to promote healing, restoration and the regeneration of damaged tissue. The appearance creates fresh, clear and youthful skin that is free of imperfections
This treatment can be used on any part of the body and works to restore injured tissue to a normal level in both structure and function. Symptoms such as swelling, redness and damaged skin may also be alleviated.
Cold laser therapy can be used in conjunction with other treatments in our Melbourne clinics to achieve your desired results. When performed together with microdermabrasion, chemical peels, photo rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction injections, dermal fillers, skin needling, and laser facial, your skin’s healing process is accelerated and results are increased.
Simply put, the treatment is a medical grade cold laser that promotes stimulation and renewal without heat or discomfort to the affected areas, either on the skin or within. Emitting a gentle beam of light, it works by promoting regeneration to the damaged tissue by encouraging cellular renewal and collagen, as well as elastin growth. This leads to a reduction of the signs of inflammation, redness and discomfort. The damaged area becomes noticeably stronger with increased lymphatic drainage and recovery. This therapy may be used anywhere on the face or body.
This treatment is very versatile, as the machinery offers numerous settings and functions to treat a range of conditions. It is able to treat the following ailments:

Also called eczema, dermatitis is a common condition that affects almost one third of the population at various stages of their lives. It is an inflammation of the skin that is characterised by red rashes or bumps, dry, scaly and sometimes cracked skin, swelling, burning and tenderness, as well as extreme itching. This condition can be caused by both environmental and genetic factors. Irritants may include soaps and detergents, shampoos, dish washing liquids, chlorine, pets, dust mites, bacteria, extreme weather changes, humidity levels, and even certain foods. Stress and hormonal changes can also contribute.

This condition is characterised by the thickening of the outer layer of the skin. It is associated with the presence of unusually high levels of keratin (a form of protein) and is part of the skin’s natural defence against rubbing, pressure and other forms of local irritation. Hyperkeratosis commonly causes whitish areas inside the mouth as well as calluses, warts and corns on the hands and feet, which can result in a great deal of discomfort.
Folliculitis is an infection and inflammation of the hair follicles. This condition is common and can occur anywhere on the skin, including arms, stomach, legs, chest and back. The only places where folliculitis cannot occur are the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. Appearing as small red bumps with a white tip, folliculitis begins with follicles that are damaged as a result of friction from clothing, shaving, blockage of the follicle, and certain hairstyles where the hair is pulled tightly and sits close to the scalp. The damaged follicles are then infected with the bacterium Staphylococcus, resulting in the red dots.
These are small painful blisters that present on the facial area, particularly around the mouth, nose and chin. A result of the herpes simplex virus, most sufferers tend to contract it in childhood. In fact, the majority of the adult population are carriers of the virus – 90%. However, only 30% of these will display symptoms. The sores can be brought on by a range of triggers, from exposure to wind and cold through to hormonal changes. Not only are these blemishes painful, but they can also cause self-consciousness and embarrassment for the sufferer.

These include arthritis, inflamed muscles and joints, pinched nerves, back and neck pain, and bunions. Cold laser therapy works to increase the production of endogenous opioids, serotonin, acetylcholine and nitric oxide in the skin, which brings oxygen, fuel molecules and other metabolites to injured tissues. This stimulates the natural healing processes and aids in resolving inflammation. Furthermore, Low Level Laser Therapy for back pain and other complains can have a selective inhibitory effect on pain receptors, working to produce a reversible neural blockade.

Not at all. This treatment uses a gentle, non-thermal cold laser, therefore you won’t experience any discomfort. Referred to as the ‘therapeutic window’, it does not heat or hurt the skin, producing no tissue damage or other complications. There have been some cases where a slight tingling has occurred during treatment – however, this is temporary and only affects the area being treated. Low Level Laser Therapy is 100% pain free, non-abrasive, and can take as little as 5-10 minutes each time. Furthermore, there are no special care requirements to worry about pre and post-treatment.
Low Level Laser Therapy has been used by healthcare practitioners all over the world. Doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, podiatrists and chiropractors have successfully treated patients in private medical clinics, hospitals, universities, sporting clubs, fitness centres, sports institutions, health spas and even military units, including NASA.
