Photo Rejuvenation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Photo-Rejuvenation?

An intense light is emitted in a series of gentle pulses over the area of treatment. It is necessary to undertake a series of treatments to improve the appearance of sun damaged and ageing skin.

What areas can be treated?

Treatments can be on any part of the skin. Photo-Rejuvenation is especially effective on the face, neck, chest and hands.

What conditions can be treated with Photo-Rejuvenation?

Patients who suffer from sun damage, pigmentation, freckles, sunspots, redness, rosacea, broken capillaries as well as some birth marks, such as port-wine stains.

What are the advantages over other skin rejuvenation modalities?

There are substantial visible improvements seen in the skin with minimal “downtime”. In most cases, patients are able to return to normal activity immediately. Treatments are safe with a minimal risk of scarring or adverse effects. The whole face can be treated for most patients within 40 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the skin concern, as little as 1-2 treatments are required, but for some conditions, 4-6 treatments are recommended. A follow up treatment in 2 or more years may be required for some conditions.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe the treatment as feeling like an “elastic band flicking on the skin”. After the treatment, the area may feel like a sunburn for several hours. Patients do have the option of having a topical anaesthetic applied to the area before treatment to eliminate any discomfort.

Are there any side effects?

Most side effects are mild and of short duration. There may be slight redness and/or crusting immediately following treatment, lasting less than 24 hours in most people, on rare occasions it may last up to several days.
