Lilt Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions
What is LLLT?
There are different types of laser therapies:
High Level Laser Therapy (HLLT)
HLLT uses light to target tissue. The light is absorbed & generates heat. The heat generated can be useful for surgical procedures (to vaporize and/or coagulate tissue), as well as ophthalmology and dermatology procedures, such as LASIK surgery, laser hair removal, removal of skin lesions, etc.
In addition to the destructive nature of these lasers, there are also beneficial non-thermal effects which can improve the quality of tissue. It is this principle that is used in photo-rejuvenation to improve collagen and elastin production in skin and improve skin texture.
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
LLLT, also referred to as cold lasers, works in a similar way, but without generating the heat that High Level Lasers do. Therefore, there is no destructive nature to the treatment, only the benefits.
How does it work?
The laser emits a powerful but gentle beam of light which is absorbed by the cells of tissue. This provides the cell with energy and stimulates receptors.
Various wavelengths of light target various depths of the skin targeting receptors within the cells of tissue creating a photochemical reaction (like photosynthesis in plants)
This leads to an improvement in the function (metabolism) of the cells by accelerating or slowing down processes in the cells of the tissue, creating a balance, which includes:
- An acceleration in cell reproduction & healing
- Stimulation of white blood cell production & collagen synthesis which accelerates the process of wound healing
- Accelerate &/or restore blood flow to damaged tissue, nerves etc
- Reduces the formation of fibrous (scar) tissue which assists in correcting hypertrophic or depressed (pitted) scaring
- Stabilize, reduce or restore the production of pigments
- Stabilize & reduce swelling which can reduce pain & stiffness
How many treatments will I need?
Some clients see benefits in as little as one treatment while others may need a course of 6-10 treatments
The number of treatments will vary depending on the type and severity of the condition being treated
The less severe the condition, the fewer treatments will be required
Chronic conditions may require ongoing treatments to maintain the benifits
Treatments can be performed 1-2 times/week
Are there any side effects?
A quick, non-invasive and pain free treatment
With over 30 years in use, there have been no adverse reactions reported.
Mild acne has been reported in some clients who have had LLLT for the treatment of joint/muscle pain
