Laser Tattoo Removal

Frequently Asked Questions

The C6 Q-Switched, Nd:YAG Laser from HOYA-Conbio, world leader in Q-switch technology, offers multiple wavelengths to target even multi-coloured tattoos. The laser is pulsed for a fraction of a second which initiates a PhotoAcoustic wave of energy. This wave of energy effectively shatters the ink into particle fragments that are gradually removed by the body’s natural process.

The Q-Switched, Nd:YAG Laser can treat all dark colours, as well as red, brown, sky blue and green inks.

What to Expect

The length of the laser tattoo removal treatment is generally only a few minutes, depending on the size of the tattoo.

What is the advantage of using a laser?

The Q-Switched, Nd:YAG Laser is commonly known in the industry as the gold standard in laser tattoo removal, offering various wavelengths of light to target even the most stubborn of colors, therefore offering you the best results possible.

What areas can be treated?

All areas of the body except the inner ear, and areas in close proximity to the eyes can be treated safely.

Am I the right candidate?

Individuals in good health who do not have a history of keloid scarring can be good candidates for laser tattoo removal. It is advisable that you do not tan prior to and during your course of treatments.

Does it hurt?

The laser treatment itself can cause some discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation like snapping an elastic band on the skin. The majority of clients tolerate the procedure with minimal discomfort, but some individuals may require the application of a topical anesthetic cream, particularly those individuals having treatment to larger tattoos.

How many treatments will I need?

For optimal results, a course of treatments is required. The number of treatments will depend on the type, amount, color and depth of the ink, but in most cases, an average of six to twelve treatments are required. Treatments are generally spaced approximately 6 – 8 weeks apart. It is important to have realistic expectations, as the skin is unlikely to look exactly the same as it did before the tattoo was applied.

Are there any side effects?

Most clients can return to normal activity after the treatment. The appearance of the treated area immediately after the session does vary from person to person. Redness, swelling and the sensation of mild sunburn is common. On some occasions, some “scabbing” may occur which may require a light dressing for protection.

Some individuals may experience changes in skin texture and discoloration but this usually improves over time. It is important that the area be treated carefully afterwards. Irritants (such as body scrubs, perfumes etc) must be avoided, any “crusting” should be kept moist with the recommended ointment, and the area must be protected from sun exposure/solariums to minimize changes in skin color.
