Isn’t it Botulism?

Definitely not. Injections are a prescription medication that has been successfully used since the 1970s. Now the number 1 most administered cosmetic procedure in the world, wrinkle reduction injections provide targeted, effective and long lasting skin rejuvenation. For those who are not yet entirely comfortable with this fast and simple treatment, let’s bust a couple of myths to ease your mind and concerns.

Who makes it? Is it safe?

Muscle relaxant injections are produced by 2 of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. Their products have been thoroughly researched and clinically trialled to ensure efficacy and safety.

Are treatments are painful?

Not at all, most people liken the sensation to a quick tiny sting, like plucking an eyebrow hair. Treatment may be performed in as little as 5 minutes. For those who are needle-phobic, a numbing cream or ice may be administered to create complete procedural comfort.

Is it going to build up in my system over time? What are the long term effects?

No. This is why treatments should ideally be performed every 3-4 months. Once you stop treatment, the lines return to the way they were before. The effects of the muscle relaxant easily metabolised and deactivate if treatment is not continued.

Is it addictive?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions. Fortunately not. Whilst the results may be addictive, if you choose to not continue treatment, the skin just goes back to the way it was before.

Will I still be able to move my face or will I look as if I have had obvious ‘work’ done?

The level of movement depends on how much product is administered. Small doses will enable natural facial movement without any tell-tale signs. For those who want a more dramatic effect, then a larger dose can effectively block an area for minimised mobility. Every face is different and every treatment is customised so you can create your own results and effect.

How long will it last?

3-4 months on average.

When will I see results?

The full effect takes around 5-10 days to be achieved after treatment.

Who administers the treatment?

Only a trained physician or registered and fully-qualified cosmetic nurse.

Is it true the injections are preventative?

Yes, this is a key motivator for many younger patients to start treatment. By targeting an area before mimic lines can develop, you will be able to preserve a more youthful effect for longer.

Can you get it in your lips?

No. Dermal fillers are used to create facial volume. Wrinkle reduction injections around the mouth area can reduce the appearance however of smoker’s line, lip pursing and to roll out the top lip for a fuller effect.
